● What we help with
Can't get email working on a new device, or messages that keep bouncing back? We'll set it up properly — Outlook, Gmail, iCloud, business email — and make sure it actually syncs.
Subscription renewed but Office won't open? Or ready to move from an old licence? We handle the install, activate it correctly, and move your documents and email across without losing anything.
OneDrive filling up on the wrong device, Dropbox not syncing, files appearing and disappearing? We'll sort out what's going where and make sure the important stuff is actually backed up.
Locked out of an account, or a two-factor code going to a phone you no longer have? We'll work through it and set up a password manager so it stops being a recurring problem.
Someone else is in your account. We'll work through the recovery process with you, lock down everything connected to it, and make sure the damage stops there.
Given remote access to a caller who claimed to be from Microsoft or your bank? We'll clean the device, document the intrusion, and write a signed clearance letter for your bank or insurer.
Worried something's running in the background, or just want a second opinion? We'll check it over, set up sensible protection, and tell you honestly what you do and don't need.
For an active infection right now, see our virus removal page.
New computer that needs programs setting up, or software that refuses to install? We'll sort it out — Windows, Mac, whatever you need running, explained as we go.
Scam recovery
Tech support scams — callers claiming to be from Microsoft, the NBN, or your bank who talk you into installing remote access software — are common in Hobart. Once they're in, they can install tools, read files, and harvest credentials in minutes.
The most important thing you can do right now is not wipe the device. Banks and insurers need a documented record of what happened to assess a claim — and that record can only come from the machine in its current state.
Disconnect from Wi-Fi or unplug the ethernet cable right now.
Ring your bank and tell them what's happened.
Don't turn off, reset or wipe the device — yet.
Book us in as soon as you can.
We document the intrusion, remove any remote-access tools, and clean the device properly.
We give you a signed clearance letter on HeyTech letterhead, dated, that your bank or insurer can act on.
For deleted or lost files unrelated to a scam, see our data recovery page.
● What we hear most
“I can't log into my email. It's not accepting my password and I can't get the reset link.”
If the recovery email or phone number is still accessible we can work through it. If not, we'll look at the account recovery options — it's rarely a dead end.
“Someone's sending emails from my address to all my contacts.”
Your account's been compromised. We'll lock it down, check for forwarding rules or other damage, and change everything that needs changing. The faster we get to it the better.
“I think I let a scammer onto my computer. They said they were from Microsoft.”
Don't wipe anything. Ring your bank first, then us. We need to see the machine in the state it's in — that's what lets us write a proper clearance report.
“My Microsoft 365 keeps saying my subscription has expired, but I paid last month.”
Usually a billing hiccup or a signed-in account mismatch. We'll sort the licence and make sure it's activated on the right account.
“I clicked a link in an email and now I'm worried I've downloaded something.”
Worth getting checked. We'll look at what happened, scan for anything that shouldn't be there, and tell you honestly what the risk level is.
“I need a letter for my bank or insurance company saying my computer is clean.”
We write clearance letters on HeyTech letterhead — dated, signed, plain English — after a full clean-up. Your bank, insurer or employer can act on it.
